DDS Lady Patriot's tennis team turns the heat up on their opponents

Neither the heat nor the Lady Patriot's tennis team let up today! At a whopping temperature of 94 degrees, our Davidson Day girls turned up the heat and scorched their opponents today, taking control of the courts and winning 7-2. Tomorrow they will turn it up again to rock it against Carolina Day School. I know it is cliche, but today I could not be more proud of these girls! They showed great sportsmanship against their opponents, despite dominating them on the court. I had parents from the other team complimenting our DDS girls on how nice and complimentary they were on the court. (let's keep that up) Singles 1: Allison Lehman lost in a close match against Raegan Vaughn. Point for point this game could have gone either way. Everybody watching was on edge to cheer on both girls as they played out their points. Allison’s final score was 3-6, 5-7. Singles 2: Sully Young had to dial it in and be patient. She outplayed Cassidy Barker from Statesville with a final score of 6-0, 6-2. Singles 3: Alyssa Horne had a great win against Maddie Holman with a final score of 6-3, 6-1. Alyssa changed her style of play a little today and it really paid off. (the shoes!) Singles 4: Grace Meister won over Briley Boan with a final score of 6-4, 6-2. Grace moved her opponent well but was challenged by several short-shorts delivered by her opponent. Remember Grace, no throwing your racket, haha! She actually dropped it while approaching the net for a volley. Singles 5: Ashelynne Horstmann played a long match against Allison Jones. Allison’s short shots challenged Ashelynne, but Ashelynne held strong with her consistent long game and won 6-3, 6-3. Singles 6: Lauren Meister was moving and grooving on her court! Her strong forehand was no match in the first set against Phoebe Buran. In the second set, Phoebe had a nice short shot that woke up Lauren’s feet for sure! Lauren won 6-1, 7-6. After a good break and cool down (if you can call it that) the girls went on to play doubles. Doubles 2 took to the court first with Sully and Grace playing against Cassidy and Maddie. Sully had some fantastic finishing drop shots and Grace scored several points with a nice strong groundstroke. These girl had several laughs on the court with their opponents, but stayed in control to win 8-2 Doubles 1, was played by Allison and Alyssa against Reagan and Briley. Again a nail-biter that could have gone either way. This match was long and hard, especially in the heat. Our DDS girls had some amazing aces, fantastic down the line shots and some put away volleys. Unfortunately, their opponents did too and we lost 6-8. Doubles 3 finished with a final score of 8-5. Ellie and Lauren played very well against Allison and Phoebe. Ellie stayed focused on keeping her groundstrokes in while Lauren worked the net with her volleys. Our exhibition courts proved that they are ready to play in the lineup! Both Delaney and Emma and then Delaney and Isabella beat their opponents with a final score of 8-2 and 8-4. Great job girls, Coach M and Coach Rebecca
