Guiding Students to A College of Best Fit

The growth and development of each Davidson Day student culminates in the college search. Our philosophy, in a phrase, is to be individualized and student-centered. Our goal is to assist and empower students during the college process so they are prepared to choose the right college of best fit and successfully move through the next phase of their education.

The College Counseling office assists in all aspects of the college planning process, including research and creating a balanced list of colleges, planning for standardized tests, application essay writing, the financial aid process, career planning and factors to think about in making that important final decision. Although we are always available for guidance and support, it is important to remember that students have ultimate responsibility in this process.

In addition to extensive one-on-one counseling, the college counseling office also plans special events throughout the year. Each fall we host Senior Boot Camp, Senior College Night, Financial Aid Night, Senior Application Workshop and Junior College Planning Night. Spring events include Freshman and Sophomore Planning Night and Case Studies. All of these events are designed to keep students and their families informed and empowered as they navigate this exciting college search process.
As counseling professionals, we work hard to maintain relationships with admission counselors throughout the country. We frequently visit college campuses to learn about the culture, curriculum, and admission policies. In turn, we welcome a lengthy roster of admission counselors to Davidson Day School each fall to speak with our upper school students.

The college search process truly is a journey of self-discovery, and we look forward to partnering with each Davidson Day family on that journey!

All the best,
