Hickory Christian Academy

Patriots battled hard against perennial state power, Hickory Christian but ended up falling in the 3-2.  The boys put their finest performance together of this young season in the first half.  The Patriots dominated possession and won nearly every 50-50 ball.  DDS opened scoring on a corner kick when Cole Hansen serviced a nice ball in with Lance Fenderson crashing the far post, who had an elegant touch past the diving keeper.  Minutes later McCarthy went up strong on a 50-50 challenging the keeper, who went after Mac, rather than the ball, earning the penalty kick.  Carter capitalized on the PK making the game, 2-0 at the half.  Unfortunately, we had a few mistakes in the second half, and experienced teams take advantage of mistakes, credit to them.  At the end of the day, no one is happy with a loss, however, it’s easy to look past the result against a good team, seeing how well we played.

Man of the Match: We had some tremendous individual efforts, but in the end Dylan Binley stands out to us.  While his efforts didn’t show up on the stat sheet, he worked so hard for the ball up top and provided several scoring opportunities.  Job well done.  Daxton Nell played inspired soccer yesterday, emptying the tank on every shift.  There was no doubt that he did everything in his power to make a difference in the game, every time he touched the ball.
