Davidson Day pushes hard against 1A champs, University Christian

What a first match! Davidson Day puts the pressure on 1A 2017 champs, University Christian. Although the Lady Patriots lost 3-6, two courts could have swung either way to a win. Unfortunately, University Christian had the experience of 3 other matches under their belt this season and we are coming fresh out of the gate working out kinks. Our girls performed fabulously. Captain, Alyssa Horne wins the award for the longest games of the day. Each point regularly went to deuce, her opponent played her point for point, but had the advantage of a few games under her belt to beat Alyssa 4-8. The score does not reflect how close this match was. Sophomore, Allison Lehman, knew from the start she had her challenge ahead of her on court 1. Allison has been improving her game all summer and it shows. Unfortunately, her opponent was also working on her game this summer and beat Allison 8-0. Allison played very strong and had to keep herself focused as she battled through some pretty rough line calls. Sully Young, took her opponent for a ride as she pushed her from side to side and ultimately beat her 8-2. Grace Meister was very close to winning her court but, her opponent had a little more energy and experience to close the game 8-6. Co-Captain, Ashelynne Horstmann played a long consistent match against her opponent. It was point for point, but Ashelynne was able to stay focused and make fewer mistakes than her opponent, shutting her out 8-3. Lauren Meister had a great first season match against her opponent and came so close to winning. Unfortunately again, our first match jitters and nerves played a part in her close loss and her score was 7-8. Doubles.....Allison and Alyssa thought they had figured it out against their opponents when they came up quick to win their first game of the set. Their opponents had their game figured out really quick and prevailed 8-3. Sully and Grace also challenged their opponents with their fast forehands and nice volleys, but just didn't have the momentum their opponents had and they beat our DDS ladies 8-3. Last but certainly not least, our tiebreak queen's Hannah and Ellie. Last year, these two won the award for the most tie-breaks for sure and today that did not change. These girls truly battled it out and ended up with the 3rd win of the day with a final score of 8-7. Congrats Lady Patriots! I am confident you will get them next time.... Coach M
