About Andrew R. Bishop

Andrew is the current assistant head of school at The Alexander Dawson School, an early childhood to grade 8 school in Las Vegas, NV. Andrew generates 94% of the school’s $13M annual operating budget. In under six years, Andrew co-led Dawson through two strategic planning processes and refreshed their core beliefs; grew enrollment by 15%; revitalized the campus through multiple capital projects; expanded athletic, experiential, and co-curricular programming; and increased fundraising by over 75%.

Andrew also developed Dawson’s high school placement program into a national center of excellence, established the school’s alumni program and scholarship program, and continues leading multiple teams and committees with high standards and data-driven decision-making. He has made a tremendous impact at The Alexander Dawson School and leaves a strong legacy.

Andrew, an educator at heart with a thoughtful and engaging demeanor, has a passion for and belief in the power of independent school education that is apparent the moment you meet him. This ethos was instilled in him as a student and hockey player at the Groton School, a renowned 9-12 boarding school in Groton, MA. He then attended Hobart and William Smith Colleges as a collegiate hockey player, graduating with a B.A. in English Literature as a Bartlett Scholar.

After graduating, Andrew became an English teacher, dormitory head, and hockey and lacrosse coach at Cushing Academy, a 9-12 boarding school serving more than 500 students in Ashburnham, MA. In 2007, Andrew became an upper school English teacher at Berwick Academy, a K-12 independent school in Berwick, ME. The school’s leadership quickly recognized his talents and energy, and he was promoted to director of admissions and financial aid. Though Andrew moved into administration at Berwick, he wanted to remain connected to his roots as an educator and coach. He continued serving as an upper school advisor, teacher (courses included Ethics and American Studies), and hockey and lacrosse coach. It was also during this time that Andrew completed his Ed.M. in Educational Leadership and Administration from Columbia University.

After almost a decade with Berwick Academy, Andrew became Assistant Head of School at Gould Academy, a 9-12 boarding school in Bethel, ME, where he led and managed enrollment, marketing, branding, and communications initiatives and personnel. In 2018, Andrew and his family moved west to The Alexander Dawson School, where he helped lead the transformation of this young school in the desert into one of the top independent schools in Las Vegas and the Western region
