Neuse Christian

DDS was handed its first loss of the young season, 5-1 to Neuse Christian. This was our opponent’s fourth game of the season who was also much older and experienced.  I’m pretty confident that if the game was played later in the season, the result would have been much different.  The boys did a great job battling through the heat and cramps.  Cole Hansen scored the lone goal with a long shot that blistered through the goalie’s hands.  Unfortunately, we didn’t test the goalie very much, despite having at least 5 shots hit the post.  The Man of the Match today has to go to our two center backs, Mark Breunig and (birthday boy) Caleb Tate.  Both did an outstanding job minimizing the opposition’s opportunities, while directing the new back line.  Moving forward, we need to do a better job working from the outside, in.  We became very impatient (frantic at times) on offense and tried to bring the ball up the middle instead of utilizing the wing backs.  On defense, we were way to calm and allowed the other team to fire shots (3 of our 5 goals conceded came this way).  Either way, lots of positives out there that we will certainly build on.
