Upper School Technology Requirements

Minimum Tech Requirements:

All students in grades 9-12 must purchase their own laptop to use for their academics:
  • Windows-based laptop with Windows 10; or Mac laptop with macOS 12 or higher.
  • Davidson Day can provide Microsoft Office 365 and Adobe Creative Cloud software free to students.
  • Most Windows-based laptops come with a minimum of an Intel Core i3 processor. A core i5 processor splits the difference between economy and performance, and a core i7 is not worth the additional cost for a student doing basic web, email, and MS Office programs. i7/i9 processors are more commonly needed for gaming or multimedia work, which may also require a separate graphics card.
  • Most off-the-shelf laptops come with at least 8 GB of RAM, but more is better. The laptop's price point will determine how much RAM is installed.
  • 128GB or more of storage.  A solid state drive (SSD) is recommended as it will provide much better performance than a traditional magnetic hard disk drive (HDD).  SSD technology costs more per GB and is typically offered in sizes between 128-512GB, whereas spinning disks are often offered in sizes from 512GB to 1TB.  Unless extreme amounts of local storage are needed, the SSD is a better option.  More than the 128GB minimum should be strongly considered for use in multimedia content creation.
  • We recommend a 14.1-inch or smaller screen. In many cases, you can find a better price point for a 15.6-inch screen, but then portability becomes an issue.
  • Also, consider the weight of the laptop since students will be carrying the laptop all day. Typical laptop weights range from 2.5 to 6 lbs. depending on size and cost.

    Student Drivers

If your teen driver needs a Driver's Eligibility Certificate from the school, please contact Debbie Taylor to request it at least two business days before your driver's license permit appointment.

If your teen driver will drive to/from school, a parent/guardian must submit the  Student Driver Authorization Form to request a parking permit.

To learn more about new drivers, visit the NC DMV: https://www.ncdot.gov/dmv/license-id/driver-licenses/new-drivers/Pages/driver-education.aspx

    School Uniform Information

Davidson Day families have two options for uniform purchases:

    1. Families can buy uniform tops and bottoms from Old Navy, Gap, Target, or other general uniform suppliers. PromoThreads in Cornelius can add the Davidson Day logo to uniform tops. This company has our official school logo on file, and they do a great job. Click HERE to visit PromoThreads.

    2. The second option is to use our online school uniform store with Land's End using school program code 900044561. They will add the school logo to your uniform order. Please note: orders from Land's End tend to take a bit longer, so be sure to allow for more time for your orders. Click HERE to visit Land's End.

    3. Davidson Day also has an online spirit store for other school-branded items like sweatshirts and athletic wear. Please note that spirit sweatshirts are allowed year-round for Lower and Middle School families, but spirit t-shirts and other athletic wear are reserved for Spirit Days only. Click HERE to visit Sideline Sports.
Please note: We will offer special DDS merch drops with fun and original logos throughout the year. These merch drops are limited and sell out, so watch for these special offers!
