7th grader Maryn Holden recently received the Girl Scout Silver Award for her Build-a-Home Library project to benefit La Esquelita Preschool, a bilingual, science-based preschool, in Davidson, NC. Her project's main goal was to create a sustainable program to help build home libraries for the preschoolers. With the help of family and friends, she collected over 750 new or gently used preschool-aged books. She also assisted teachers with project prep, built a bookcase for the preschool, and created a promotional brochure for her project to distribute throughout the Lake Norman area. The project was so special to her that she plans to continue to collect books and help with projects for the preschool, and she hopes when COVID-19 restrictions are lifted she can volunteer as a reader in the classroom. A highlight of the project was working closely with one of her very favorite teachers from Davidson College Presbyterian Church's Preschool, Mrs. Pat Shaw, founder and Director of La Esquelita. Well done, Maryn!
