Mr. Moore is hired after a thorough international search led by the school’s Board of Trustees and a Search Committee and assisted by search firm Educators’ Collaborative. Mr. Moore succeeds Interim Head of School, Mr. Wes Wehunt, and Mr. Moore will officially begin his tenure at Davidson Day on July 1, 2020.
Mr. Moore currently leads the Lower School at Lake Forest Country Day School in Lake Forest, Illinois, a prestigious PreK-8 independent school located in the Chicago metropolitan area. He also serves as the Assistant Head of School.
“We’re delighted to welcome Pete and his family to our Davidson Day community,” said Mr. Wes Wehunt, Interim Head of School at Davidson Day. “His robust background and depth of experience in education across the globe will serve our students, families, and faculty well.”
After the unexpected death of the school’s prior Head of School, Dr. Latta Baucom, on July 28, 2019, the Davidson Day School Board of Trustees began an immediate search and appointed Mr. Wehunt as Interim Head of School for the 2019–2020 academic year. Mr. Wehunt has led the school in the interim role and will return to his role as Head of Middle School once Mr. Moore begins.
“Under the leadership of Mr. Moore, the school’s administrative team, and my colleagues on the Board of Trustees, Davidson Day is well-positioned to deliver a valuable global education to students and families in the Lake Norman area and beyond,” said Renée Brown, chair of the Davidson Day School Board of Trustees. “The efforts of the Search Committee and Mr. Wehunt throughout this process have been diligent and commendable.”
Moore has two decades of demonstrated experience in education, with an emphasis on leading innovation and diversity initiatives, growing enrollment, and fundraising. In addition to his work at Lake Forest Country Day School, he served as Assistant Head of School and Lower School Director at the Chinese American International School (CAIS) in San Francisco, was a fourth-grade teacher at The Nueva School in California, and Director of Technology at Sydney Grammar School in Sydney, Australia.
“As soon as I arrived on campus, I knew it was a special place,” and Mr. Pete Moore. “I met students who were curious and engaged and spent time with faculty and staff who were deeply committed to the success of every student. It is rare to find a school with such a strong sense of shared purpose, and I’m thrilled to find a home at Davidson Day.”
Moore earned a Master of Education with a concentration on management and leadership from the University of Sydney, a Bachelor of Education with a concentration in special education from the University of New England, and a Bachelor of Teaching at the University of Wollongong.
Moore will be joined on campus by his two daughters, who will enroll at Davidson Day, and will relocate with his wife Chris in June.
