Introduction from Incoming Head of School Andrew R. Bishop

I am humbled and honored to join the Davidson Day community. As your new Head of School, I come with a full heart and the promise to work in unison—with trustees and administrators, faculty and staff, students and parents—to secure our position in the pantheon of elite early childhood to grade 12 schools.
The supreme dedication and diligence Davidson Day School put into the search process is something that the entire community should take great pride in. I am extremely grateful to the trustees, administrators, parents, faculty, staff, and students I shared conversations with during the search process. My time with you affirmed that Davidson Day School’s greatest strength is its people: the care you have for one another and your belief in the school we share.
Though I have worked at and visited schools across the country, I have not seen a school so resolutely live its mission as Davidson Day does. It’s exciting to join an educational community that, like me, believes to its core in the power and pursuit of academic excellence via character, collaboration, and creativity. From Davidson Day’s youngest learners to those students who are about to embark on their journey through higher education, there is a palpable zeal for learning that permeates the Davidson Day campus and a sense of joy, curiosity, and commitment that resonates from the students and faculty.
As someone who has given my whole heart, soul, and energy to education, I have the utmost faith in its transformative power and in Davidson Day School’s vision to be a premier college preparatory organization by offering innovative, personalized learning that unlocks student potential. We will accomplish this work together by tethering ourselves to our mission while celebrating our rich history. Suffice it to say, I am enamored with our school and beaming with Patriot pride.
Kyle and I appreciate the warmth and hospitality Davidson Day has already extended to our family. Our children, Carter, Beckett, and Ryan, are curious about their new school and what it is like to be a Patriot. As a family, we are listening to (and singing along with) a lot of James Taylor and the Avett Brothers, and we pay close attention when we see any collegiate or professional North Carolina team play, from Davidson College to the Hurricanes. But we are the most excited to attend Davidson Day athletic games and performances supporting our Patriot students and community.
Very simply, we are counting down the days until we call North Carolina and Davidson Day School home.
Beginning this month, I look forward to working closely with Interim Head of School Michael Smith, Board Chair Takila Naylor, and the Transition Committee to develop opportunities to connect with families, students, and colleagues. I am thrilled to return to campus soon for the first of several visits before officially stepping into the role on July 1.
Most importantly, I am eager to learn from you, the Davidson Day community, to listen to your stories, challenges, and hopes. Together, we will build a memorable and magnificent vision for the future.
