Davidson Day Welcomes Alumna Mallorie Haines ’21 as Faculty Member and Coach
Davidson Day School is proud to announce that alumna Mallorie Haines ’21 has joined its faculty as Physical Education Teacher for third through eighth grade and Head Coach of the Varsity Girls Basketball Team. Mallorie is the first Davidson Day graduate to return in a full-time faculty role—a milestone moment for the school community.
A member of the Davidson College Class of 2025, Mallorie has made her mark as a standout athlete on the Wildcats Women’s Basketball Team. Over four seasons, she established herself as one of the top three-point shooters in NCAA Division I, helping lead Davidson College to an impressive 75 wins.
Mallorie’s journey began at Davidson Day, where she was a driving force behind the Patriots’ back-to-back NCISAA State Championships in 2020 and 2021. She earned numerous accolades during her high school career, including All-Conference and NCISAA All-State honors.
“Mallorie is one of the finest student-athletes to ever wear a Davidson Day jersey, and we are thrilled to welcome her back,” said Athletic Director Chris Turner. “We look forward to her leadership in the classroom and to the renewed energy she will bring to our girls basketball program.”
Her former Davidson Day teacher, Michael Thomas, also reflected on her return:
“When Mallorie arrived at Davidson Day, it was clear she was an exceptional athlete. But we soon discovered she was equally committed as a student and community member. Her drive for success was matched by her ability to connect with others, qualities that will serve her—and our students—well in this exciting new role.”
Mallorie’s return is a proud reminder of the lasting bonds Davidson Day fosters and the inspiring cycle of Patriots who achieve great things and then return to give back to the next generation.
