A tutor provides individualized academic support for Lower and Middle School students. The ideal candidate will have expertise in reading and math instruction and a strong understanding of executive functioning skills, such as organization, studying, and time management. The Tutor’s primary goal is to enhance each student’s academic success through personalized tutoring and coaching sessions that reinforce classroom learning.
This part-time, hourly position typically requires 15–20 hours per week, with most sessions taking place during the school day. Scheduling will be determined based on student needs and class schedules. The Tutor reports directly to the Director of Curriculum.
Essential Functions
Provide individualized tutoring sessions for Davidson Day students through the Learning and Enrichment Center (LEC), during the school day or before/after school hours as needed
Support students in improving academic performance by addressing specific learning challenges and strengthening executive functioning and study skills
Reinforce classroom learning by reviewing material, reteaching key concepts, and helping students build essential academic skills in reading and math
Collaborate with classroom teachers to align tutoring strategies with classroom goals and ensure consistent academic support
Maintain regular communication with parents regarding student progress and areas of focus.
Complete required documentation and maintain accurate records of tutoring sessions and student progress
Participate in faculty or departmental meetings as requested
Adhere to all school policies and perform additional duties as assigned by the Head of School
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree
Prior teaching or tutoring experience
Demonstrated passion for working with students and supporting their academic and personal growth
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues
Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple students’ learning plans effectively
Collaborative mindset and flexibility to adapt to student and program needs
Reliable, professional, and committed to maintaining the School’s standards of excellence
Preferred:
Degree in Education or a related field
