Kindergarten Learning Specialist

Position Summary
The Kindergarten Learning Specialist provides individualized academic instruction to one kindergarten student, targeting specific learning outcomes and supporting overall developmental growth. This position collaborates with the Director of Curriculum, Head of Lower School, and kindergarten team to design and deliver comprehensive lessons aligned with the established curriculum map and instructional guide.
The Learning Specialist implements differentiated instruction to meet the student’s unique learning needs and abilities, ensuring lessons are engaging, appropriately paced with the kindergarten classroom, and consistent with the School’s educational objectives and standards. Core responsibilities include ongoing assessment, documentation of progress, and regular communication with the student’s family. This role works in the Learning Enrichment Center (LEC) and partners with the Lower School; there may be additional responsibilities consistent with being a member of the Lower School division.

This position is contracted for the 2025-2026 academic year, with no expectation of employment beyond the contract term.

Essential Functions
  • Partner with the grade-level teacher to develop lesson plans that reflect grade-level curricular goals and make adjustments to enhance student learning as needed
  • Design and implement daily lesson plans aligned with the kindergarten curriculum and student learning objectives
  • Provide family with weekly updates using the LEC communication template, including an overview of concepts, student progress, upcoming goals, and areas of concern
  • Conduct ongoing assessments and administer standardized tests as required
  • Collaborate effectively with specialist teachers and Lower School faculty to ensure an integrated and supportive learning experience
  • Maintain accurate student records, including attendance, assessments, and report cards, in accordance with school expectations
  • Fulfill shared supervisory duties such as lunch, playground, Commons, and carpool coverage
  • Attend and support school events, including those occurring after school hours or on weekends
  • Participate in faculty and division meetings, contributing to discussions and initiatives that strengthen the school community
  • Meet regularly with the Director of Curriculum, teaching team, and support staff to review progress and coordinate instructional strategies
  • Comply with all school policies and procedures and perform additional duties as assigned by the Head of School

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education, special education, or related field
  • Minimum of three years of teaching experience in early childhood or lower elementary grades, preferably in an independent school setting
  • Familiarity with differentiated instruction and formative assessment practices
