Davidson Day Faculty Member Mat Saunders Named Executive Editor of Academic Journal, The Mayanist
Mat Saunders, a member of the Davidson Day Upper School faculty, was recently named Executive Editor of a new archaeology journal, The Mayanist, a bi-annual academic publication made available for free to the public on the AFAR website.
The peer-reviewed academic journal will share current research in the field of Maya studies, and the first issue is now available for review.
Saunders, in collaboration with Editor-in-Chief Dr. Maxime Lamoureux-St-Hilaire of Davidson College and Dr. Bill Ringle, Davidson College Emeritus, along with artist Aaron Alfano, who created twelve illustrations to accompany the articles, and Davidson Day Upper School Faculty members Laura Woods and Mike Thomas, who provided the photography and lettering, were involved in the publication of the first issue.
The four authors that contributed to the journal were Dr. Kenneth Seligson of California State Dominguez Hills, Evan Parker of Tulane University, Dr. Barry Kidder of the University of Kentucky, and Dr. Stanley Guenter of the Foundation for Archaeological Research and Environmental Studies. All four presented at the 2019 Maya at the Lago Conference held at Davidson Day School.
