Davidson Day's middle school football team suffers tough loss against Pine Lake Prep
Our Middle School Football team had five fumbles in the first half yesterday, however went into halftime only down 6-0. On the opening kickoff Pinelake on sided and the ball bounced off a Patriot player to the Lions. They drove down to our 20 yard line where our defense held them on 4th down. We then took the ball 60 yards down field with great runs by Brandon Jones and Brennan Kelly, however, we fumbled at their 16 yard line. The rest of the first half the Patriots defense was strong until just before halftime when Pinelake broke free to a long Touchdown run. Their point after attempt failed and we went into halftime down by only six points. Our defense was led by Jack Grier, Brandon Jones, Brennan Kelly and Brody Barnhardt had three touchdown saving tackles in the open field.
The 2nd half was much like the 1st half with the Patriots defense looking strong and only allowing three big players however two of them were for touchdowns. The offense suffered more fumbles and had a touchdown called back on a questionable penalty.
We'll regroup and definitely work on ball security as I really believe it would have been a different outcome without all of the turnovers. You just can't expect to win when you give the other team the ball 7 times in a game. We were also without Liam Groulx who is our starting halfback, Will Sinclair (shoulder) and Bobby Merryman who is most likely out for the season with a knee injury.
We have a controlled scrimmage/practice on Monday against CSD and Southlake so it's great that we will have a chance to clear up our errors so soon and put yesterday defeat behind us.
