Nov. 19 Diversity Forum: LGBTQ+

Lexi Justice '22
The Davidson Day Student Diversity Council will host its third Diversity Forum on Thursday, Nov. 19, at 7 p.m., via Zoom, which will focus on the LGBTQ+ community. This will be the third Diversity Forum for the Davidson Day community, and it follows forums focused on the African American experience and Jewish experience.

Throughout the year, the Council is looking to host forums to promote diversity and open dialogue with the goal of highlighting people who are a part of the American landscape, and their experiences. “When the Student Diversity Council last met,” said Council faculty sponsor, Mr. McGill, “I asked the students to rank which ones they wanted to hear discussed the soonest, and LGBTQ+ issues came up at the top of the list.” The panel of speakers for Thursday’s forum will include administrators, board members, faculty members, current students, and one alumnus. “We have a really good panel of speakers for this one,” McGill said. “Usually we have six, but this time we have nine.” He noted that some of the speakers identify as LGBTQ+, while others identify as allies.

Panelists for the forum will include Head of School Pete Moore; Mr. Steve McGill, Upper School English teacher and faculty sponsor of the Student Diversity Council; Katherine Nikolich ‘21, co-leader of Student Diversity Council; Jake Breunig ‘22, member of Student Diversity Council; Jessie Wiles ‘21, member of Student Diversity Council; Emma McMahon ‘23; Stefan Maier ‘16; Rob Simpson, Upper School History teacher; and Renée Brown, Chair of the Board of Trustees.
