Announcement of Acquisition of New Property

DAVIDSON, N.C. (August 16, 2018) –
Davidson Day School is delighted to announce that they recently closed on a 17-acre parcel of land located at 1803 Mecklenburg Highway (also known as Rt. 115) in Mooresville; just three miles from their current campus at 750 Jetton Street in Davidson.

This acquisition is a key component of school’s overall strategic plan. According to Board Chair, Ms. Renee Brown, "Our board has a robust growth plan for Davidson Day as we move into our 20th year of operation. We pride ourselves on developing well-rounded leaders who are creative, collaborative, and demonstrate strong character. Building a new upper school campus will help us to offer our innovative and challenging learning environment to more students as the Lake Norman area continues to grow."

The school intends to build a new upper school academic campus, athletic fields, and a new gymnasium on the new property. Plans for that campus expansion are in very early stages, and the Board of Trustees and the administration are diligently engaging a variety of stakeholders in that process to ensure that this expansion project reflects the needs of students and teachers and aligns closely with the school’s vision and mission.

With the addition of a new campus, Davidson Day will retain its current 15-acre campus on Jetton Street, which opened in the fall of 2007 with 300 students. While the building has been updated over the years to accommodate the school’s growth to 520 students, Davidson Day plans to reconfigure the current facility in order to optimize learning for students 2 years old through 8th grade.

In order to fund the construction of the new campus, Davidson Day will launch a capital campaign. Head of School, Dr. Latta Baucom, explained that “the timing of the build-out and subsequent opening of the new upper school facility will be dictated by the pace of our fundraising efforts.”

“The opportunities that this new campus addition will provide will enable us to expand our overall curricular offerings at every divisional level, as well as open up new possibilities for our athletic and other extracurricular components,” shared Dr. Baucom. “This is a historic opportunity, and the future is certainly looking very bright for Davidson Day.”
