The Application Process

Davidson Day School welcomes applications for all grade levels. The Admission Office is happy to work with your family as you go through the admission process for your child(ren). Applications submitted after the priority deadline of February 1 will continue to be considered on a space-available basis.

    Fill out the Online Inquiry Form
    The first step in applying is to tell us more about your family.
  • 2. Application

    A completed application includes the the online application and application fee of $100.
    All required forms and records must be received in our Admission Office by our priority screening deadline of February 1 in order to be eligible for consideration in our first round of decisions. Applications received after February 1 will be considered on a rolling admission basis, pending space availability.
  • 3. Visit

    Our Admissions Office is eager to welcome you to campus.
    The tour is an excellent opportunity for parents to get a feel for the culture of our School. The visit serves as an introduction to all things Davidson Day and an opportunity to gather information. It allows families to “peek behind the curtain” so to speak and see the interactions between teachers and students. It is a great first step to determining if Davidson Day is the right fit for your family.
  • 4. Additional Items for 2 Years Old-Kindergarten Applicants

    School Records and Teacher Recommendations
    If your child is applying to be a Toddler, Eaglet, Transitional Kindergartener, or Kindergartener, you will provide a childcare or classroom teacher recommendation.

    Admission Testing
    Early Childhood applicants through age three must complete a brief classroom observation session, which may be scheduled through the Admission Office. There is an additional fee for this session. 
     
    Student Shadow Day
    Early Childhood applicants are invited to a partial day of visiting a DDS classroom. During the visit, prospective students will have the opportunity to participate in the daily activities of the classroom and interact with the students and teachers.
  • 5. Additional Items for 1st-6th Grade Applicants

    School Records and Teacher Recommendations
    If your child is applying to 1st Grade through 6th grade, you will provide a classroom teacher recommendation along with official school records from your current school.
     
    Admission Testing
    Rising 1st through 4th grade applicants will take the Woodcock Johnson Aptitude or Achievement tests at Davidson Day School. As these are individually administered tests, please be sure to schedule your child's testing date with the Admission Office as early as possible. Applications are not complete without testing results. There is an additional fee for this testing.

    Rising 5th-6th grade applicants will take the ISEE (Independent School Entrance Exam). Because most regional independent schools are using this test requirement in their application process, your child will be able to sit for the test at a number of locations from October through April. Testing is proctored on Saturdays and takes several hours. Test results will then be sent to the school(s) to which you are applying.
    Information about the ISEE and registration for the test can be found at WWW.ERBLEARN.ORG. ISEE testing will be offered at Davidson Day School several times during the school year. For consideration in our first round of decisions, students should take the test before our February 1st priority-screening deadline. There is an additional fee for the ISEE test.
     
    Student Shadow Day
    Applicants for 1st-6th Grade are invited to spend a full day in a DDS classroom. During the visit, applicants will have the opportunity to participate in daily DDS activities and interact with students and teachers at their current grade level.
  • 6. Additional Items for 7th-12th Grade Applicants

    School Records and Teacher Recommendations
    If your child is applying to 7th through 12th grade, you will provide a recommendation from his/her math teacher and a recommendation from his/her English teacher along with official school records from your current school.
     
    Admission Testing

    The full day visit will provide rising 7th-12th grade applicants an opportunity to participate in daily DDS activities and interact with students within the division. We will match the applicant with a DDS student at the current grade level.
