Dear Davidson Day School Community,
Welcome to the new academic year at Davidson Day School!
We are proud to be celebrating some important milestones in 2018-2019. This is our 20th year of operation as a school, devoted to delivering academic excellence in a caring and supportive learning environment. The result of this steadfast commitment to educating children is a school that is well-positioned to expand our presence to the benefit of our entire community.
In January, you will remember that I announced that Davidson Day had entered into a contract agreement to purchase a nearby property. Doing so was a critical component of the school’s strategic plan to provide additional facilities and enhanced learning environments for our students for years to come, and our trustees and administration diligently explored options to make this expansion possible.
It is my great pleasure to confirm that we recently closed on a great property with over seventeen acres of land located at 1803 Mecklenburg Highway (also known as Rt. 115) in Mooresville; it is just a five minute drive from our current campus on Jetton Street.
Our intent is to build a new upper school academic campus, athletic fields, and a new gymnasium on this property. Plans for that campus expansion are in their early stages, and we are excited to proceed with the development and design process to expand our school. We are engaging a variety of stakeholders in that process to ensure that this expansion opportunity reflects the needs of students and teachers and aligns closely with our vision and mission.
Of course, constructing and building facilities to benefit our current and future students on this new property will require your involvement. In the coming months, we may invite you to participate in conversations to discuss components of the new facilities and the mechanisms that we will use to fund and fuel their construction.
Ultimately, our legacy as a school depends on your generosity and investment in an upcoming capital campaign to design and build a new upper school campus as well as renovate our current campus, so that all of our students benefit from the campus addition. We hope that you will share in our vision for the future, and consider ways in which you might like to provide input, be involved, and invest in the long term success of Davidson Day School.
Here’s to an excellent year ahead, and to the future legacy of Davidson Day.
