At about this time last year, I was just stepping into my role as Development Director at Davidson Day School. It was just as the 2017-2018 Annual Fund was reaching out to parents, and I jumped right in. I have spent my entire 18-year career fundraising for independent schools and nonprofit educational programs, because I care deeply about responsibly educating young, bright minds who can make our world a better place. It was always my mission to learn how the power of teachers and programs can inspire students to reach academic success, so that I could be an advocate to donors on the importance of supporting that power.
This fall, my husband and I enrolled our two sons at Davidson Day School, and for the first time in my fundraising career, I am witnessing the benefits of an independent school setting from an entirely new and personal perspective. Our children are reaping the benefits from the enrichment opportunities surrounding them: the passionate, knowledgeable, and supportive teachers; living and learning in a close-knit community; the educational technology available to all students; and full engagement in the arts and languages. I can advocate now as both an administrator and a parent how truly impactful the learning environment at Davidson Day is. This learning environment is greatly enhanced with the support of Enrichment Fund donations.
