Of all the things that make Davidson Day School unique, our Student Growth Portfolios are among the most significant for you and your child. We recognize that children learn differently, and we believe that “one size does not fit all” when it comes to education. Our teachers work diligently to find the ideal teaching style and level of challenge for your child –- whether he or she is gifted, performing at grade level or in need of extra help in some areas. Our Student Growth Portfolios are the personalized tools that help us measure and follow your child’s progress from one year to the next.

Upper School Student Growth Portfolios

Students in Upper School develop goals across five key areas: academics, leadership, service, personal, and extra-curricular. These goals are used to promote discussion between student and advisor, and clarify how the student would like to benefit from his or her experience at Davidson Day. The advisor works with the student to set realistic, attainable goals and build plans for achieving these goals. Students are also asked to record their progress and experiences in a journal throughout the year, including summer. This helps them reflect on how their activities are relevant to their future aspirations.
