A STORY SO BIG, IT NEEDS 40+ ACRES
Davidson Day School announces campus expansion in Mooresville
April 30, 2012 - Davidson, North Carolina – Davidson Day School is holding a press conference to officially announce its plans to build a second campus in Mooresville. This new campus is made possible through a partnership with Faith Road Enterprises, LLC, a group of entrepreneurial investors that is donating 40 of its 206 acres to Davidson Day School and making available an additional 25 acres to the school for future development.
The press conference takes place on the Faith Road property where the new campus will be built, off Route 115 in Mooresville. This Mooresville campus will serve students in 7th through 12th grade with a master plan for the facility to include state-of-the-art classrooms, a science and math center, an arts and humanities center, laboratories to support STEM education, designated arts spaces including a fully-equipped theatre, extensive athletic facilities and multiple playing fields. The immediate plan is to build classrooms and athletic facilities to accommodate approximately 500 students.
Davidson Day School’s current Jetton Street campus will house its early childhood through 6th grade program. Building renovations will be made to support age-appropriate learning spaces for the hands-on, innovative curriculum offered at the school.
“Education is about expanding kids’ horizons. It’s about providing diverse experiences to help each child discover their own interests and capabilities,” says Bonnie Cotter, Davidson Day School’s Head of School. “By expanding our campus, we are able to increase the range and reach of the exciting educational opportunities we provide to each child and ensure we are providing a one-of-a-kind educational experience for each and every child.”
“We are incredibly excited about this new campus and what it means to our students,” says Davidson Day School Board Chair, Richard Gordon. “Providing facilities and programming that keep Davidson Day School on the cutting-edge of educational innovation is always our goal, and this new campus allows us to continue doing just that.”
Plans for the new campus are closely tied to the progress of the school’s Capital Campaign. Thanks to the generosity of Faith Road Enterprises, the campaign is able to focus exclusively on raising funds for the development of the campus, rather than the purchase of land.
“The first phase of the Capital Campaign has been very encouraging,” says Eric Brown, Davidson Day parent and Capital Campaign Chair. “We are on pace to reach $3 million by the end of the summer and will begin the new school year with the public phase and a goal to raise another $2-$3 million.”
“The Town of Mooresville is pleased that Davidson Day School is becoming a part of our community,” says the Honorable Miles Atkins, Mayor of Mooresville. “We welcome the faculty, students and parents associated with the new campus and look forward to many collaborative projects with them."
Faith Road Enterprises, LLC which owns the 206-acre parcel is in preliminary discussions with a handful of entities about possible partnerships. Mike Marvin, spokesperson for the LLC says, “We are looking for synergistic relationships with organizations that share our vision to build programs and premier facilities that benefit both Mooresville and Davidson Day School.”
