Middle School football team opens with a victory!

The Davidson Day Middle School Football team opened our season against a very tough Carmel Covenant team beating them 14-0. The offense was led by our offensive line who really took it to the Cats. Johnny Chidwick (8th grade captain) centered and stopped the Cats attempt to blitz us on almost every play. Jack Grier (TE), DeAundre Stewart (RT), Jackson Maze (LT), Ben Slay (LG), Tyler LeTarte (RG) and Brandon Jones all helped us with long sustained drives that had us having the ball more than 75% of the game plays!

Our running backs also had a great day with Liam Groulx leading the charge. Liam scored our first Touchdown on a nice run along the right side of the line. Bobby Merryman had two long runs before he got injured. Brandon Jones stepped up and played fullback and barreled over the Cats defense for our 2nd Touchdown. Gavin Fragale (QB) who was playing in his first ever football game managed the offense brilliantly and looked like a true veteran! Brody Barnhardt had a couple of keys runs for first downs for us and Brennan Kelley also had some nice carries. Joel Baucom had to move positions because of an injury and did a great job at both Z-receiver and X-receiver. The play of the day might have been Jack Grier's extra point reception where he went up high to grab a ball with defenders all over him. He came down with it to give us a 8-0 lead early in the game.

On the defensive side of the ball we simply dominated. Brandon Jones and Tucker Kelley both had multiple QB sacks and tackles for loss. Johnny Chidwick, Jack Grier and Brennan Kelley all had forced fumbles for our defense. Brennan Kelley also had a Touchdown saving tackle for us that kept the shutout alive. Taylor Rhodes and Brody Barnhardt both had several key tackles for the team.

All in all it was a great win against a very well coached and tough Cats team. Congratulations to all of our players and coaches!
