At Davidson Day School, every student is offered the opportunity and encouraged to be a part of a team. As a member of the Southern Piedmont Athletic Association (SPAA) and a member of the North Carolina Independent School Athletic Association (NCISAA), we’re committed to the principles of integrity, sportsmanship and healthy competition. We believe that every child should be able to experience the pride and accomplishment of representing his or her school in interscholastic competition.
Davidson Day School is founded on the belief that our teachers are more than classroom instructors. We hire adults who want to be engaged in their students’ lives. They serve as advisors, mentors and coaches. The Athletics Department believes in the same philosophy.
A successful Athletics program begins with successful relationships between athletes and their coaches. Student athletes perform better in the classroom and on the fields when their teachers and coaches know them and understand them. Our goal is to have 100 percent of our coaches as full-time employees of Davidson Day. By hiring men and women who excel in academics and athletics, our student athletes are surrounded by highly competent, caring adults, during the school day, as well as after school. We strongly believe in coach as teacher and teacher as coach.
We know that athletic competition is a powerful teacher. Physical and mental challenges in a team context offer athletes the opportunity to develop self-confidence and a commitment to others that will inspire them to lead productive, active lives.
Through athletic competition, our goal is to ensure that student athletes display the highest degree of integrity, sportsmanship and mutual respect in preparation for leadership in society.
